Adopt a German Shepherd Dog

German Shepherd Dog Dog

Trystan the Dog needs a home

German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs.

If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information.

Trystan is an adorable 11 month-old youngster. Trystan is very energetic, smart, and loving. He is very food-motivated and eager to please.

Trystan knows the commands "sit", "down", "off", and "shake". He is potty-trained and he rides in the car nicely. Trystan is still working on leash-manners but is working hard on the heel command and doing great. He enjoys playing with a ball and is picking up on the game of fetch. He also enjoys stuffed Kongs and chewing on bones.

Trystan is a great pup! He is great with people, including kids, other dogs, and cats. He is a snuggle bug and enjoys being right next to his people. Trystan has some separation anxiety, and will need a heavy-duty crate. Trystan would be an excellent fit for an active adopter who is excited about training, socializing, and being active with a super smart, affectionate pup!

Like all German Shepherd youngsters, Trystan will need training, consistency, boundaries, and lots of activity and socialization. Our dogs make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.

Reminder: Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills.

Please review the information in the "About Us" and "Adopt" sections on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org), as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.

As of 5/1/2024 Trystan is still available for adoption. Please use the owner information below to confirm that Trystan is still available or to adopt. Don't forget to check the other animal shelters near me there are many other pets needing a fur-ever home.
